How to prime rv water pump – Instructions

You now need to find out where the water pump is located. They are often installed under the bench seats or in cabinets as near to the water tank as possible. If this fails, open the cabinet underneath your kitchen sink and trace the water line back to the pump. Then, here we go.

  1. First of all, disconnect the water outlet line from the RV water pump by turning the screw on the attaching collar counter clockwise until it is loose enough to pull the hose off. The outlet line is the clear plastic line that comes out of the water pump and goes into the RV to feed sinks, showers and toilets.
  2. Secondly, slip the collar off of the outlet line and on to the end of your rubber hose. Attach the rubber hose to the outlet spouting on the RV water pump by screwing the clamp down. Your rubber hose should be the same size as your water line and long enough to extend out from behind or under wherever your pump is placed so you can stand or sit.
  3. Next, fill a jar with 12 ounces of water (about a soda bottle full). Hold the hose you attached to the outlet spouting up in the air so it is above the level of the pump. Pour the water into the hose. Place your thumb over the top of the hose and turn the pump on. Give it a minute to build up pressure and then you should feel the water against your thumb. Turn the pump off.
  4. Finally, disconnect the hose from the pump and reconnect the water line. Open one of your faucets and turn the pump on. You should see water running in a few seconds. Close the faucet, turn off the pump. Finished!

Items you need

Basically, there are 4 items that must-have items should be at the top of the how to prime RV water pump list

  • Jar
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Rubber tubing
  • Water

RV water pump overview and How to choose a perfect one

Imagine that your family is going on holiday in the favorite RV and then some issues come to your RV : the flow of the water gets stuck and you want to replace the used water by the fresh one. At present, you need to fix them to make sure your vacation is not interrupted.

Tips and Warnings

Tips

To be sure you guys have a smooth process, we would be pleased to share some tips and warnings that you should focus on.

  • If you are hooking your RV up to a fresh water supply, you should use a hose designed for drinking water. Do not use the hose for any other purpose as it needs to be kept sanitary. You will still follow the same steps to prime your RV water pump.
  • If fresh water isn’t  available at your campsite, be sure to figure the water in your holding tank into your payload. Water weighs approximately 8 lbs. per gallon, so a 50 lb. holding tank will add 400 lbs. to your RV.
  • If your pump is not easily accessed, trace the water line where it first connects to a sink (almost all RV water lines will run to your kitchen sink first) and disconnect that line and use it as if it was the rubber hose attached in the steps. However, pour about a gallon of water into the line instead of a jar full to avoid creating an air trap in your line.

Warnings!

  • If you prime a pump after winter storage and you have used antifreeze in your water lines, leave the faucet open and the pump running until the water is absolutely clear. Antifreeze left in your water supply can make you ill. Therefore it must be completely clear

Conclusion

Priming a pump is probably the first and one of the most important thing you should do before operating it. Our guide can lead you guys to the right place. So now we bet that you know how to prime RV water pump. By applying those instructions with some tips and warnings above carefully, you can enjoy your trip without worrying about the lack of water
